Aesthetics Wiki

Here’s a list of things that are genuinely exploitative and offensive to attempt to turn into aesthetics (including “aesthetics” I believe should be deleted):

Religion and The Occult, because belief systems do not decide aesthetic taste (problematic: New Age and Witchcore), although ties to certain religions in certain aesthetics should be mentioned.

Bigotry, because there should be no aesthetics that exist purely to spread religious, political, cultural, or racial hatred or misinformation of any kind (problematic: Sacricore).

Sexuality, because sexuality does not decide aesthetic taste (problematic: “Lesbian Cottagecore”), although ties to sexuality in certain aesthetics should undoubtedly be mentioned.

Fetish, because an aesthetic can be sexy but cannot be purely sexual nor should it ever even come near romanticizing abuse (problematic: Furry, Babygirl, and Nymphet/Dark Nymphet), especially since there are often non-sexual equivalents (like Babycore).

Psychological Issues and Disorders (including trauma from abuse, depression, anorexia, etc.), because these are extremely serious and sensitive issues that should never be romanticized and should always be treated with respect and empathy (problematic: Traumacore, Waif, and Morcute).

Brain Damage (including Autism), because these are extremely serious and sensitive issues that should always be treated with respect and empathy (problematic: Changelingcore).

Drugs, because drug-use does not decide aesthetic taste (problematic: Drugcore and Heroin Chic).

Politics, because politics do not decide aesthetic taste (problematic: Fashwave), although ties to certain politics in certain aesthetics should be mentioned.

Firstly, lifestyle choices cannot be aesthetics because they are far more personal than visual/fashion/artistic expression.

It’s also wrong to romanticize any kind of real life human suffering (such as abuse trauma, psychological problems, and brain damage). Such things cannot be aesthetics because they are, once again, much too personal.

I also want to mention that many belief systems (Judaism, Muslim, Buddhism, Hindi, etc) are often not referred to as “religion” or “religious”, even though quite a few of them consider themselves to be exactly that. It’s important not to forget that there are many religions on the planet and the word “religion” is not a catch-all, lumped-together term for Catholicism and Protestant Christianity (which are actually very different from each other).

There is also no such thing as “alternative religious beliefs” (which is extremely disrespectful as it lowers belief systems to the level of trendy, alt lifestyle choices like tattoos). In many parts of the world separate from the West, paganism is actually far more common than Catholicism or Protestant Christianity.

If anything on this list is the entire basis of an aesthetic, it should be augmented, made a sub-genre to an aesthetic, or deleted.
