Thonkingposting (also known as Ironic Phonk) is an aesthetic that represents a humorous and ironic portrayal of House Phonk music and "drift" edit videos.

It often satirizes edgy videos posted by children, typically found on short-form content platforms such as YouTube Shorts, TikTok, and Instagram Reels. Thonkingposting generally mocks asthetics like Sigma, Larpercore, and Driftcore. Rather than embracing the often serious, intense, and hypermasculine undertones of these trends, Thonkingposting opts for a funny and critical approach.

It also draws inspiration from So Retro, Schizoposting memes and Gen Alpha Brainrot, which poke fun at nostalgia, esotericism, and overstimulating childrens' content respectively.

History[]

The term "Thonkingposting" is a combination of "Thonking" (the individual who allegedly started this trend on TikTok) and -posting, a suffix often used for other memes that involve "shitposting" (posting low effort, yet hilarious content). Other examples include Schizoposting and Wizardposting. It's thought to have been coined on Discord. Other names for this aesthetic include "Ironic Phonk", which might be a bit more self-describing.

Music[]

Thonkingposting music could be jokingly described as "rap so underground it belongs in the sewer".

GavinZBeats is the most well known Thonkingpost musical artist, who takes pre-existing songs (usually popular rap or hip-hop tracks) and turns them into ironic remixes labelled as "aggresive gym phonk" [sic]. However, as it is meant to be a joke, they closely resemble Extratone music rather than Phonk. His songs went viral on social media for parodying the current, often toxic and nonsensical trends.

Philosophy[]

Thonkingposting is largely based on satirizing videos posted by conservative self-radicalized children on TikTok (see Sigma and Larpercore). These videos might include biased comparisons between men and women (or also straight and LGBTQIA+ people), which is portrayed in Thonkingposting through a critical and parodical lens. Also, mocking Anti-Furries is another common subject matter in the memes, and as a result many members of the furry fandom have found this aesthetic humorous.
