Soggy (or Swampcore) is an aesthetic that relates to the theme of swamps, wet outdoors and the appreciation of animals that are found in the dirt, such as worms, frogs, toads, slugs, snails and other such critters.

Description[]

The Soggy aesthetic is centered around swamps, bogs, bayous, marshes, and other such environment with copious amounts of water and vegetation, as well as the critters that inhabit these habitats.

As a subset of Dark Naturalism, Swampcore has many similarities with the Mossy, Rotcore, and Mushroomcore aesthetics, however it is differentiated by its connection to aquatic environments. This aesthetics color scheme includes various shades of green, browns and other natural hues.

Visuals[]

Mud and murky water are staples of this aesthetic. Due to its ties to watery environments, this aesthetic also overlaps with Rainy Day aesthetic, though is tied closer to slow moving bodies of water such as swamps, as well as areas abundant in mist and fog. Swampcore may also include many elements from Campcore, except in a swamp-like setting, with activities such as fishing being emphasized instead of hiking.

A major part of this aesthetic includes the various "critters" and vegetation found in swamps and swamp-like environments. Some such examples include:

  • Removing plastic pollution from freshwater environments
  • Rowing a boat through a swamp
  • Cooking/Eating freshwater fish, shellfish or clams

Tips for critter searching[]

  • Wear boots when exploring in muddy areas (you may want to leave them outside to avoid leaving mud tracks indoors)
  • Critters tend to hide under rocks, logs, and piles of leaves, especially if they are wet (Try looking under one and see what you find!)
  • Rainfall often causes critters that normally would not be seen out of their hiding spots
  • Digging through soft dirt is a good way to find worms
  • The soil within outdoor pots tends to attract many different critters over time
  • Use nets gently to catch butterflies and grasshoppers for observation
  • Catching fireflies in a jar can be fun, but remember to let them out so they continue to thrive in your area

Music[]

Music of the Soggy/Swampcore aesthetic can include the natural sounds of swamp environments themselves, but maybe also be represented by musical genres which emerged from such swampy regions such as Swamp Blues and Bluegrass.

Bass can often be a perfect representation of the swamp, with a low, droning sound that resonates deep, almost like the gurgle of a quagmire, or the croaking of a frog on a summer evening. It gives a sense of depth and mystery, just like the murky waters and twisting trees of a swamp. The Banjo and Country Fiddle are also often used in media to represent the swamp and regions associated with it.
