Moomincore is an aesthetic focused around the beloved childhood book series and anime, The Moomins. The Moomins are known for having a certain nostalgic feel to them, which many people long for. Thus, Moomincore was born around 2014 on Tumblr. The asthetic centers around the 90's anime more than anything. The visuals and plethora of episodes makes for lots of source material.
Tumblr's Moomincore community is small but certainly there. The tag opens you to a world of girls in flower crowns and hiking boots, and plenty of inside jokes on anything from The Joxter to Moomintroll and Snufkin's relationship. The difference between the fandom and the aesthetic often blends, but one thing separates them. Those involved with Moomincore often translate their love for the series into real life.
In addition to outfits and moodboards, many posts in the aesthetic list what the aesthetic includes.
It's interesting to see the interpertations that the members of the aesthetic come up with.

Associations With Queer Culture:
Moomincore is heavily intertwined with the LGBTQIAP+ Community.
It has ties to Sapphic circles and is usually associated this way because
of it's similarities with Cottagecore and the origins of Moomins. Moomins is very queer coded because the original author, Tove Janson, was a lesbian herself.
That influence has blended with the aesthetic. The fashion aspect is also aligned with lots of Queer fashion trends.
