Minivan Rock was a loosely-defined musical style and aesthetic that was popular from roughly 1997 to 2004,[1] during the Y2K era. This was the period where alternative rock influences became fully subsumed into the mainstream, with genres such as post-grunge having a more pop-oriented sound compared to the original grunge. The music and fashion of this period was rather preppy, but had a more sophisticated and serious side to it as well.

Fashion[]

Fashion for Minivan Rock was similar to Y2K and various alternative styles (i.e. Grunge, Nu-Metal, Pop Punk). Reoccurring fashion elements include:

  • Tanktops
  • Baggy pants/jeans
  • Revealing tops and conservative bottoms
  • Eyeliner
  • Neck accessories (Necklaces, chokers, ties, etc.)

After 2004, the Minivan Rock style gave way to Emo[2] and Scene fashion, which emphasized black complimenting brighter colors (such as pink, blue, etc.).
