MTV Green Sky aesthetic, is a music video aesthetic that was prevalent from roughly 2000 to 2008. The term was coined by designer Steves Peeps in 2021. It is named after the common fad of music videos existing in worlds with green skys and green atmosphere. This design aesthetic was common place in most music videos and motion pictures at the time. The blue hues of the video are usually over exaggerated to make them look a Green/Yellow.

History

The roots of MTV Green Sky can be traced back to the movie The Matrix in 1999. Digital coloring became very easy to implement and as such directors could jump on the bandwagon and feel futuristic without much effort. Director Michael Bay used this color scheme for the first Transformers movie that launched in 2007. Everybody had jumped on the digital color grading bandwagon by 2008 and as such became too played out. The aesthetic started declining right when the great recession was starting to take place.
