Takenokozoku (lit. 'Bamboo Shoot Tribe')[1] refers to a style and a type of dance group that was active from the mid-1970s to 1981 in Harajuku, an area of Tokyo, Japan. In 2019, a group called KEKENOKO tried to revive the style.[2] Teenage girls made up most of the movement, and were dressed in a very colorful style.
Fashion[]
Takenokozoku fashion is characterized by vivid colors, such as red, pink, and violet. Clothing tended to be gaudy and loose-fitting, and was made of cheap materials.[3] Harem suits, which were shapeless jumpsuits, were an important part of this fashion.
