Thematic

The theme of this movement arises in the golden age of romanticism and adventure, specifically in the 1890s, where the first novel that would lay the foundations for this genre was written: The Prisoner of Zenda, by Anthony Hope, a piece of the genre swashbuckling, part of the drama novel. The protagonist of this novel travels to a non-existent country in Europe, called Ruritania, which is based on different aspects of European Union countries. As time passes, different artists and writers take this base to create their own Ruritania, created based on a romantic or attractive look or vision about the different European places. Probably, most of the 19th century covers the theme of this aesthetic is gathered here in different examples.
