Ethereal is an aesthetic based on a typology developed by professional stylist Olga Brylińska.^[1] It is considered a category of beauty and style that can function as an independent system for identifying one's appearance and building a personal aesthetic, meaning "extremely delicate and light in a way that seems not to be of this world." Ethereals define facial features, body build, and colors, and consequently, determine appropriate clothing styles, colors, lines, details, patterns, accessories, makeup, and hairstyles.

The aesthetic is often perceived as distinctly feminine, but not in an overtly sexual way. It conveys a sense of maturity and wisdom, sometimes described as having an "ancient" quality, suggesting an old soul or a connection to a distant time. The visual style associated with Ethereal typically involves elongated and unconstructed silhouettes with intricate details, creating a dreamlike quality without appearing girlish.

The Ethereal Typology encompasses eighteen distinct Ethereals, resulting in twenty-one beauty archetypes when including doubled categories. Each archetype is associated with specific beauty features and corresponding style and color recommendations. Individuals typically possess a combination of several Ethereals, with some being more dominant than others. Recognizing one's Ethereals is considered a method for understanding personal style and physiognomy. The principles of Ethereals can also be applied beyond personal appearance to areas such as interior design and visual arts.
