Electro-Eclectic is a niche style originating from the 1990s to the 2000s. It mixes ethereal experiences and sophisticated philosophies with avant-garde electronic medias. With unique soundscapes and visuals that combines the inorganic with the organic, the aesthetic is predominantly seen through avant-garde electronica artists such as Bjork, Goldfrapp, and occasionally, Grimes. The term Electro-Ecletic is created for the purpose of this Wiki. The style is commonly associated with Futurism and the Avant Garde umbrella. It can be seen in, but not limited to music, videos, art projects, and fashion.
While bearing similarities to Frutiger Aero, Retro-Futurism, and Y2K Futurism, Electro-Eclecticism stands on its own as a distinct aesthetic.
History[]
The earliest traces of electronica music that may fall under the Electro-Eclectic aesthetic is in the 1980's. It is not until the 1990's that the style evolved into the distinct experimental sound of Electro-Eclectic. With the rise of EDM, the style becomes more predominant; Trip Hop, EDM, House, and other forms of experimental music that blends organic and inorganic sounds together becomes more popular. Many things could classify as electro-eclectic, from full EDM pieces to electronica.
The aesthetic is mostly seen in the UK, USA, and Japan's media scene
Fashion[]
There are no particular fashion styles associated with Electro-Eclectic, however, minimalistic and/or oriental/ traditional clothing with a futuristic flare is often seen alongside with it. Metallic silvers are often utilised, occasionally gold is seen. Clear, holographic materials can also be seen, however it is important to note that the holographic material should not be oversaturating. Machinery or 'mecha' style pieces may also accompany the look.
The clothing can be cluttered and minimalistic, the Electro-Eclectic Fashion style ranges widely, and factors such as ethnic background and personal taste can influence the general look.
Media[]
Being a rather experimental and philosophical aesthetic, the media may vary. These pieces of media often discusses the human condition and the ethicality of technology. The Electro-Eclectic aesthetic is the line blurring the artificial and the organic.
