History[]

The invention of the comic was way back in 1897 by Rodolphe Töpffer. However as we come to know them today superhero comics kicked off in 1938 with Action Comics #1 Superman.

Timeline[]

Although exact dates are always debated in the community. The general timeline for comic ages is as follows.

Golden Age - 1938 to 1954

Silver Age - 1956 to 1970’s

Bronze Age - 1970’s to 1986

Dark Age - 1986 to 2000’s

Modern Age - 2000’s to Present

Comic Code[]

In 1954 the Comic Code Authority was formed by the Comics Magazine Association of America. The CCA would provide an alternative to government regulation.

Philosophy[]

Comics have always been political. They are a political medium through and through. From Captain America punching Hitler on a comic cover to the strips you get in a newspaper.

Comics are against anti-semitism. Even Captain America himself is a Jewish Golem. For those who don’t know in Jewish lore, a golem is an animated creature made of inanimate parts that acts as a protector, companion or helper of a Jewish community.
