What does the -core suffix mean?[]

The word "core" comes from the French word coeur, meaning heart. However, the use of core as a suffix comes from the word "hardcore", meaning "an irreducible nucleus or residuum; also a stubborn or unyielding minority."

In aesthetics, the -core suffix is used to enlighten a defining feature. For example: cottage life in Cottagecore, dreamy imagery in Dreamcore or witchcraft in Witchcore.

In musical genres, the -core suffix is often used for genres related to Hardcore music, for example Breakcore, Artcore and Deathcore, among many other musical genres.
