What does the -core suffix mean?[]

The word "core" comes from the French word coeur, meaning heart. However, the use of core as a suffix comes from the word "hardcore", meaning "an irreducible nucleus or residuum; also a stubborn or unyielding minority."

In internet aesthetics, the -core suffix is used to enlighten a defining feature. For example cottage life in Cottagecore, dream-like imagery in Dreamcore or witchcraft in Witchcore.

In Music Genres[]

In musical genres, the -core suffix is often used for genres related to Hardcore Techno or Hardcore Punk, such as Breakcore, Artcore and Deathcore, among many other genres.
