This category organizes aesthetics based on their cultural or national origins, aiming to represent a diverse range of cultures and promote accurate and respectful cultural representation. The categorization considers various levels of cultural identity, including national cultures such as American, Chinese, and French, regional cultures within specific countries, like Cornish, Catalan, and Basque, and ethnic cultures associated with specific groups, such as African American. It is important to note that these categories are not always mutually exclusive, and some aesthetics may overlap. When categorizing aesthetics, it is recommended to prioritize the most specific and relevant cultural origin. Additionally, broader categories such as pan-ethnic, like Celtic, Hispanic, and Indigenous, may only be used with caution, recognizing the potential for overgeneralization and the importance of acknowledging the diversity within these groups. Categories relating to continents, such as Nordic, may also be added when an aesthetic is related to a specific continent.
Please note that several categories were recently deleted for promoting stereotypes, overgeneralizations, misrepresentation, or limited use. Examples include the "Romance" category, which grouped all Romance-language-speaking countries and was deemed too broad, the "European" and "African" categories, which similarly overgeneralized diverse continents, and the "Roma" category, which was removed due to concerns about potential stereotyping and misrepresentation of the Roma people. Additionally, blank categories with no relevant aesthetics (e.g., Sierra Leonean, Latvian, Lithuanian) were removed, as well as categories containing only aesthetics that are not specific to the culture in question (e.g., Yugoslavian era aesthetics tagged under the Croatian category, the Canadian category). These removals reflect an ongoing effort to ensure accurate and respectful cultural representation. This categorization system is a work in progress, and ongoing refinement is necessary to ensure accurate and respectful representation of diverse cultural aesthetics.
Categories may only be readded if they are accurate representations and there are enough pages to warrant its inclusion.
