Aesthetics Wiki

Babycore is an aesthetic centered on soft, muted colors and imagery associated with infants and toddlers, emphasizing childlike innocence. It uses lighter colors and visuals typically reserved for babies and toddlers, distinguishing it from Kidcore, which focuses on school-aged children. Unlike the "Babygirl" aesthetic, Babycore avoids sexually suggestive undertones. The terms Babycore and Softette are sometimes used interchangeably, although Babycore often emphasizes baby-like visuals whereas the term Softette generally refers to girly Babycore fashion inspired by Delicate Sweet and Kawaii.

It is important to note that Babycore is not interchangeable with ABDL (Adult Baby/Diaper Lover) or the adult baby community. While Babycore is often associated with age regression or littlespace, not everyone who enjoys this aesthetic uses it to enter a younger headspace, and not everyone who engages in age regression or ageplay adopts this aesthetic.

Visual[]

There is a small but significant divide in the babycore aesthetic community between hyperfeminine, soft, vintage, very light-colored visuals more aligned with Delicate Sweet and Vintage Toycore, and more modern, plastic, cluttered, colorful (but still soft) visuals, more inspired by Yume Kawaii/Jojifuku. Some visuals may also be more inspired by Mizuiro, especially for more boyish looks since light blue is traditionally associated with baby boys. These sections of the community can often overlap and are not different enough to become their own unique aesthetics; they are united as a community by their shared values of childlikeness, innocence, and "cuteness", and visually by the use of pastels and infants'/young children's items. Babycore visuals include:

  • Pastels, especially baby pink and blue

Example of Babycore clothes

Since babycore is an aesthetic rather than a specific fashion style, fashion can take inspiration from any soft, babyish, and/or kawaii styles. Fashion inspired by Melanie Martinez Crybaby era is popular. Although some may choose to wear adult baby onesies, babycore does not necessarily focus on infant-like style. It leans more towards "girly" toddler fashion, such as:

  • Ruffled dresses
  • Sweet Lolita dresses and shoes
  • Mary Janes
  • Platform sneakers
  • Barrettes
  • Frilly socks
  • Thigh highs
  • Character/animal onesies
  • Bonnets
  • Loose sweaters
  • Overalls and pinafores
  • Ribbons and bows
  • Miniskirts
  • Suspender skirts and shorts
  • Frilly bloomers and co-ords
  • Childlike jewelry such as chokers, necklaces, charm bracelets, etc.
  • Girly character T-shirts
Compilation of various clothing and items relating to babycore. There is a baby blue sweater and black overalls. There is also a baby blue pacifier, knitted hat, folded blanket, and teddy bear. There are various blue baby bottles and there is a container of Oreos and Dum Dum lollipops.

Boyish babycore clothes

Apart from being leaned towards "girly-like features", there are baby boy outfits out there:

  • Ribbed socks
  • Character onesies
  • Sweaters
  • Overalls
  • Suspender shorts
  • Jeans
  • Character T-shirts
  • Pastel blue instead of pink clothing
