The Asian Baby Girl (ABGs) is a subculture that contradicts the stereotypes that are expected of Asian girls, such as being studious and passive. Many ABGs are Asian-American girls who adopt this aesthetic to escape academic stress and/or gain confidence to socialize. In its infancy stages, the term ABG was associated with being derogatory and had many implications of sex work, drug usage, and assimilation of western culture.

History

This section is under construction

Asian Baby Girl culture originated in the 1990s among some cliques of Asian-American youth of New York, who would frequent clubs that played hip-hop and trance music. They were carrying on the Asian gangster traditions of the 1980s, which had died out due to government crackdowns.[1]

In the 2020s, the term ABG resurfaced as a fashion trend rather than a subculture. Asian women, who would usually wear little to no makeup, created tutorials and transformation videos to showcase the look of an ABG.
