Aquajel (also known as Aquagarden or Chlorinecore) refers to an aesthetic based on clean bodies of generally warm water. It includes flowers and fruits on water surfaces, as well as clean and generally bluish-colored gelatin objects. The aesthetic is the result of an internet movement that also brought cleancore at the same time. It generally aims to convey clean, soapy smells, along with memories or feelings of comfort to the viewer. Its imagery is capitalist, as it includes the world of television commercials, which generally involve hierarchical companies.
History[]
The aesthetic gained popularity in the mid to late 2000s and was mostly used on social networks such as Instagram and Tumblr by its users. The aesthetic shares distinct similarities with Cleancore and Frutiger Aero, such as bright lights and an upbeat, clean vibe. This is because they were popular in the same period, where nostalgia was mostly focused on their current elements.
Visuals[]
Aquajel has a sterile and clean appearance, with usually floating objects on the surface of the water, water that is usually in a clean pool or in the sea. These objects include fruits, flowers, plants, rubber duckies, jelly and sponges. Although this aesthetic is based on water, there are some examples of images that even though they belong to the aesthetic, they do not contain high levels of water (ex. the jelly fish image under Gallery). It shares very obvious visual similarities with Cleancore, Frutiger Aero, Frutiger Eco, Helvetica Aqua Aero, Summer and Poolcore. The latter is probably because the aesthetics were developed at the same time, so they adopted the nostalgic fashions of the time. The aesthetics bear some resemblance to jellycore, but their images don't usually look that similar, with exceptions, such as Aquajel jelly images.
Commercials[]
Due to the popularity of this aesthetic in some advertisements, it is obviously possible to find promotional audiovisual content with elements of the aesthetic.
