This aesthetic/trend was especially popular in online fashion circles, and ive been making an effort saving and documenting pics of it, and ive made a list of the common themes and people ive noticed wearing it
PATTERNS:
- polkadots (most common)
- stripes (not as common but mostly seen on tights, esp on the more emo adjacent side)
- plaid (if you're more emo youll wear a black and white plaid dress with like a corset top and ruffled skirt)
HAIR:
- voluminous/bumped hair
- blunt bangs/side bangs, usually combined with straightened hair
- layered and teased if youre more emo
MAKE-UP:
- black smoky eyeshadow with exaggerated lashes
- all around eyeliner (not exclusive to emos but if its thicker its more emo)
- pale (usually pink) lipstick
- lipgloss
CLOTHES:
- swing dresses
- strapless/sleeveless dresses
- corseted dresses
- ruffled skirts and brightly colored sashes
- peter pan collar blouses (sleeveless)
- striped Henley tops
- pencil skirts
- platform stiletto heels/peeptoe heels (usually in patent shiny leather)
- flats (usually with bows)
ACCESSORIES:
- thick waist belts
- skinny bow belts
- thick plastic bangles
- bright colors
- circular earrings
- colorful tights
- bow headbands
- bows
- statement necklaces
- flower diadems
- big chunky sunglasses
- thick headbands
- pearls
EXAMPLES:
- denisse guerrero from belanova
- kerli (shes more gothy but still has the landmarks of the style)
- kate nash (shes more twee but i feel like this style is very twee-adjacent)
- zooey deschanel (again more twee but. this style is v twee-adjacent)
- katy perry (one of the boys era)
- amy winehouse (in her late frank-early back to black era)
- lilly allen (smile era)
styles this takes inspo from: dolly girls, mod, poppare, twee, and rockabilly
proposed names if there isn't one: twee-chic / twee-glam / dulce-beat (like the belanova album)
This style has a lot of overlap with twee and emo, and was REALLY popular (esp with the whole 50's-60's rockabilly fashion revival) and i need someone to help me document and put a name to it
