Oh, yeah, I know, but it does have sinister/vintage vibes that seem to fit with topics like nihilism and loneliness. Part of learning is finding out truths that you don't want to, and while that's not what dark academia is strictly about (it's more vintage) it reminds me personally of those things- dark libraries full of books, not being able to talk to people about topics you want to talk about, deep conversations you partially don't want to have (even though you have to) as they're laced with loss of innocence, slow lapses from happy ignorance into sad knowledge for the sake of truth and passion. That's how it feels to me personally, even though it's not strictly about sadness or loneliness. I know it isn't, it's just that it can be used as a sort of coping mechanism! Darkness is used to symbolize those things: loss of innocence, sadness, loneliness, and so (just to me) it gives whatever it's used in a tint of light melancholy. I know it doesn't make whatever it's used in melancholic or pessimistic. i'm sorry I wasn't clearer about that!
And as for the website, it's less "sorrow" and more philosophical/poetic/meditative. It also has vintage vibes. I didn't include it because of the "sorrow" part, just because it's one of my favorite websites since it has so many great words and discussions on when a word is a word. It's like dictionary.com, but vintage/classical.
i hope this clears things up!!
