Hello! I am having trouble finding the sub-genre name (or multiple) for this type of Americana and/or an article about it.
My idea of Americana is suntanning beds, fake lips, USA bikinis, McDonalds patriotism, kind of campy, slutty and fake. It’s white picket fences and the American Dream!
This may be my own mix and interpretation of what Americana is but, if it had to be named - what is the closest sub-genre? American pop? New Americana? Camp Americana? 60s?
The closest visual reference I can think of is this:
Personally I think the first movie is Americana the second movie for me is probably like frutiger areo and then I'd say the third one is probably flat design I think I'm not really sure
Also if you look closely at the globe you can see that they stretched in warped some of the continents to look like the characters of the film
Anyway my art could get me blocked BUT Lets put politics and chaos aside just enjoy the art OK
Hehe patriotic derg
Top: Shabby Primitive Americana
Middle: Whimsicraft
Bottom: Groovival
Is there a version of Historical Americana that presents it subversively, like parodying the negative aspects of our history and making scathing comments about slavery, what we did and still do to Native Americans, etc? Kind of like Southern Gothic or Suburban Gothic but for all regions of the country throughout history? Or like the approach that SacriCore takes to commenting on the negative aspects of Christianity (which some think that it has no redeeming qualities whatsoever)?
For those who have an interest in editing the "Americana" page and others related to it, a good opportunity to see some aesthetics is coming in less than a month. On September 13th the MET's Costume Institute will host their annual gala with the theme "In America". The accompanying exhibit will be presented in two parts. The first opens on September 18th, 2021, and the second on May 5th, 2022.

Moodboard:
The page for Americana needs a lot of rewriting. I can contribute a lot to this in a few days when less busy.
But essentially:
The page needs to be more developed than a cross-cut of the random subcultural categories "Biker, Greasers, Okies, Redneck, Route 66" against the example categories of "Visual, Music, Fashion"
Furthermore, some (to all?) of those subcultures listed above (Biker, Greasers, Okies, Redneck, Route 66) are deserving of their entirely own pages.
While Bikers and Greasers, or Okies and Rednecks, are definitely aesthetic cultures of America, I don't think they necessarily constitute "Americana" aesthetic itself. Americana is certainly a vague term aesthetically, but from my point of view, it's anything the aesthetically represents nostalgia towards or the glorifying of America or American history. Like the thumbnail, this includes red white and blue; but also stuff like Statue of Liberty, Washington DC, Revolutionary War, apple pie, baseball, Coca-Cola, Levi's blue jeans, etc.
These are just my thoughts. Let me know what you guys think? I'm new to this wiki but I think it has some of the most amazing potential I've seen.
