Can I rework the Furry page?
Hi Emilysweetheart!
Yes, you absolutely can and should rework the Furry page! That page is currently flagged for cleanup because it's currently a "category error"—it describes the fandom itself, not a specific aesthetic style.
Your goal is to redefine it to document the discernible visual aesthetic that comes out of the fandom (e.g., the specific visual canon of Fursuits or a defined art style) and not just chronicle the fandom's activities.
You can proceed with the rework, focusing on visual rigor and avoiding documenting the fandom's general history. Let us know if you have questions!
@Gwenanenn could you give a few mouths to work on it? I'm currently really busy with school right now...
Or is there no dead line? I'm sorta confused
No, there is no deadline. You're free to edit (or not) whenever you want. Take your time :)
Thank you! But I also have to ask, could I keep the controversies list or no?
Yes, you should. Deleting the controversies can be considered a form of POV-pushing/sanitization. Our policy requires that pages on sensitive topics must be neutral and not omit critical or controversial information. Deleting the controversy section is a form of omission that makes the page unreliable. If the fandom is associated with the "zoophilia" or "sexual fetish" stereotype by external media, the page must neutrally document that stereotype and the community's response to it.
The current "Controversy" section is flawed because it reads as a defense of the fandom rather than a neutral, academic analysis. The rework should focus on making the prose entirely neutral and factual; for example, instead of "A number of furries will vehemently claim that the fandom has absolutely nothing to do with sex...", something like "A segment of the community strongly separates non-sexual appreciation from sexual aspects."
Take your time and thanks for asking!
Does this include actual controversies since the furry fandom has so many controversies (Such as having problematic subgroups, religion being looked down upon by the fandom, etc.)?
What do you think?
