I don't live in Tennessee, but since it's a comic convention (not strictly an LGBTI convention) you should be perfectly safe there, even if LGBTI events are technically illegal there. I've never been to a comiccon/animecon but I've seen many people (in photos) enjoying these events. I'd dress up as a Kamen Rider/Konami Bomberman/Ganbare Goemon if I could attend a cosplay event.

If ur insecure, I would suggest dressing modest. You can try dressing up in lolita fashion, or lolita fashion inspired clothing.
